a note about how endermen eat
[originally posted on tumblr on 02-01-2025]today i went out to eat with my family and we ate (among other things) sushi. and i couldnt help but notice that i felt right eating food like this; whole, uncut. this was jarring to me, because as a dragon, i always get teeth shifts when chewing food (especially if its meat or the like). like im eating normally, and then boom! big sharp dragon teeth inside my mouth.
so it wasnt my dragon side singing with joy every time i ate a piece of sushi. no, it was my enderman kintype. which totally makes sense if you think about it! endermen, or at least my kind, dont actually have teeth. our mouths are hard, rigid, with these little fang-like shapes sticking out on both sides. i always assumed it was because we evolved to eat chorus fruit, which is the only food that is native, and therefore grows in the End. the way we eat chorus fruit is a little reminiscent of those videos of tortoises eating fruit, you know the ones, where they bite into the soft flesh-like surface of the fruit with their hard beaks, and then just swallow it like that. well, we endermen do something similar when we eat chorus fruit; but when we have to eat big, hard foods, which would be difficult to bite that way, our only option is to eat them whole. smaller food too, if we dont want to bother biting it. so since we have no teeth to chew, we would have no choice but to swallow it whole! its okay though, because enderman jaws are able to unhinge and re-hinge at will. like a snake! a bit freaky, but cool nonetheless!
so yeah, the sushi was good. and i got to take the train back home, which was nice! i love traveling by train, i wish i was able to take it more often. sadly, the ride we took today was only fifteen minutes long… but i spent the whole time listening to music while daydreaming about flying alongside the train :D
